Mon Louis Island Headland Pocket Beach

SCE was selected to develop a coastal engineering design to stabilize and enhance 600 feet of sandy Mobile Bay shoreline using natural and nature-based features. This living shoreline provided a suitable alternative to bulkheads through the addition of clean sand fill and the construction of small rock headland structures. Two large submerged reefs were constructed well offshore to prevent negative impacts to the wave and sand transport climate of the bay shoreline. This pocket beach design has been very stable and the offshore reefs are home to oysters, crabs, and attract recreationally important fish species.
